Sustainability at OQ
At OQ, our sustainability strategy is deeply rooted in our mission to drive sustainable economic growth within Oman’s energy value chain and to enable a seamless energy transition through successful partnerships. Guided by our vision of maximising value from Oman’s energy resources while powering our journey toward a sustainable future, we are committed to implementing innovative solutions that meet the energy needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Our core values, perform, collaborate, and care, are the foundation of our sustainability approach. We strive to perform with excellence, ensuring operational efficiency and resilience across all our activities. Collaboration is key to our success; we actively seek partnerships that foster innovation and drive progress in the energy sector. Care is at the heart of our operations, as we prioritise the well-being of our employees, communities, and environmental conservation.
By integrating these principles into our daily operations, we aim to create lasting value for our stakeholders and contribute to the global energy transition, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for Oman and beyond.
Recognising that OQ’s operations and decisions have far-reaching impacts on the environment, society and the economy, we are dedicated to integrating sustainable practices into different aspects of our business, ensuring that we not only comply with regulatory requirements but also exceed them when we can. We understand that sustainability is not a destination but a journey of continuous improvement.
At OQ, we embed climate considerations into business planning, investment decisions, risk management and operational performance across our energy value chain.
Our approach combines carbon reduction, energy efficiency, reliable emissions data, and climate risk management. Aligning with Oman’s Net Zero 2050 ambition, we are working towards reducing combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in line with Oman’s national emissions targets and targeting net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. OQ's GHG Management Framework provides a harmonised approach to enable emissions’ measurement, accounting, reporting and verification across the Group.
As the energy landscape evolves, we are strengthening our approach to identifying and managing climate-related risks across our operations and value chain. By assessing the potential impacts of extreme weather, evolving regulation, market shifts and changes in the energy system, we can enhance resilience, reduce exposure, and support long-term business continuity.
OQ is supporting Oman’s energy transition through a dual approach: reducing emissions from existing operations while expanding renewable energy through OQ Alternative Energy. In 2025, OQAE advanced its portfolio of utility-scale solar and wind projects, secured additional long-term power purchase agreements, and continued to build a strong pipeline of future opportunities.
These efforts contribute to energy security, economic diversification and long-term value creation for Oman.
OQ's operations interact with air, water, land, and marine environments across industrial, coastal and upstream locations. Managing these interactions responsibly supports operational continuity, regulatory compliance and the protection of Oman's natural resources.
Our environmental management approach covers air emissions and pollution prevention, water use and discharge, waste management, circular resource practices, and biodiversity and ecosystem protection. These areas are supported through environmental assessments, monitoring, operational controls, and management systems applied across relevant assets.
Water management is an important topic for OQ, particularly in Oman’s water-stressed environment. We monitor and manage water withdrawals, consumption, recycling, reuse, and discharge across our operations, while assessing potential impacts on surrounding ecosystems and receiving environments. Through targeted efficiency initiatives, process optimisation, and water reuse opportunities, we strive to reduce freshwater demand and enhance resource resilience.
In parallel, we apply a circular approach to waste management by minimising waste generation at source, strengthening segregation and traceability practices, and increasing the recovery, recycling, and beneficial reuse of materials where technically feasible and environmentally responsible. These efforts support our commitment to reducing environmental impacts, conserving natural resources, and creating long-term value for stakeholders.
Biodiversity considerations are addressed through environmental impact assessments and sitespecific management measures, reflecting our approach to preserve the natural environment surrounding our assets.
By combining operational controls with strengthened protocols and targeted actions, OQ seeks to reduce environmental impact, maintain compliance, and protect the natural systems on which its operations and neighbouring communities depend.
Our employees, contractors, and the communities connected to our operations are fundamental to our long-term success. We are committed to protecting health, safety, and well-being, fostering an inclusive and high-performing workplace, and contributing to the sustainable development of the communities where we operate.
Guided by our values of Perform, Collaborate, and Care, we strive to provide safe, respectful, and inclusive working environments, develop national talent, and create positive social impact through responsible business practices.
Health, safety, and operational integrity remain our highest priorities. We manage these areas through strong leadership accountability, risk-based controls, workforce and contractor competency programmes, incident learning, and robust HSSE management systems. Our policies, standards, and codes of conduct reinforce our commitment to human rights, fair labour practices, ethical behaviour, and responsible business relationships, supported by accessible grievance and reporting mechanisms.
We invest in our people by developing technical, leadership, and future-focused capabilities needed for the evolving energy sector. Our approach promotes Omanisation, equal opportunity, employee well-being, and a workplace culture where individuals are empowered to grow, contribute, and achieve their full potential. Regular employee engagement and feedback mechanisms help us understand workforce priorities and continuously enhance the employee experience.
Our responsibility extends beyond our operations. Through strategic social investment, partnerships, local capacity-building initiatives, and employee volunteerism, OQ supports programmes that address community needs and contribute to national development priorities. By leveraging our capabilities, resources, and relationships, we seek to create lasting social value and strengthen the resilience and prosperity of the communities we serve.
We apply these principles across our operations, investments and business relationships to manage risk, maintain stakeholder trust and support long-term value creation.
Our governance framework establishes oversight, accountability, and internal controls through Board and management structures. Ethical expectations are set through our Code of Conduct and Third-Party Code of Conduct, while training, reporting channels and assurance processes reinforce integrity across the organisation.
Strong cybersecurity and responsible data management help protect our people, operations, information and stakeholder trust. As our business becomes more connected and digitally enabled, maintaining secure and reliable systems remains integral to operational resilience. We also seek to extend our standards across the supply chain by considering environmental, social, and governance factors in how we engage suppliers. This includes setting clear expectations for ethical conduct, supporting supplier capability, and strengthening local value creation through In-Country Value and SME participation.
Together with effective governance, responsible procurement and local value creation, innovation and digitalisation help OQ strengthen performance and contribute to Oman Vision 2040.
